Pressure on cash flow derived from tight credit and lending by the high-street banks to SMEs during the recession and even now, has created an environment for risk aversion and not taking a business to the next level. 84pc of those polled were not prepared to take on more debt to expand and only 23pc said they would consider using alternative forms of funding.
